POSITION PROFILES LOCATION: Marion, IL PREPARED BY: STM Associates COMPANY INFORMATION The Company is a leading producer of thermal coal with over 3 billion tons of coal reserves in the Illinois Basin which they have developed with 4 mining complexes. The company has recently completed a 5-year, $1.7 billion capital expenditure program constructing these complexes and related transportation infrastructure. The company is among the largest holders of coal reserves in the United States and their reserves are sufficient to support over 100 years of production at the current production level. The Company is looking to fill the following three (3) positions: 1. DIRECTOR, PREPARATION PLANTS The Director, Preparation Plants will be responsible for all operational, engineering, and maintenance functions for the company's preparation plants to achieve maximum production at or below budgetary costs and within quality standards. The Director, Preparation Plants will report directly to the COO. This individual will have five (5) direct reports. The Preparation department consists of approximately 135 employees. A B.S. in an engineering discipline or related field is preferred; however, progressive work experience can substitute. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience at a coal operation is necessary. Significant preparation plant experience is required; expertise in dealing with the challenges of successfully increasing preparation plant recovery is also required, as is five to seven years of management experience. 2. PREPARATION MAINTENANCE CHIEF The Preparation Maintenance Chief will direct all maintenance functions at one of the company's plants to achieve maximum production at or below budgetary costs. In cooperation with the Prep Plant Superintendent, this individual will develop an effective maintenance plan to keep plant up and running at optimum efficiency. The Preparation Maintenance Chief will report directly to the Preparation Plant Superintendent. Direct reports will include 5-6 people specializing in mechanical and electrical maintenance, welding, etc. A degree is not necessary, however, it would be a plus. Ten to fifteen years' experience related to maintenance of preparation plants is required. Seven to ten years' successful progressive management experience is also necessary. The candidate will have a strong background in predictive/preventive maintenance systems and have increased availability of plant operations. 3. Coal Quality Engineer - Corporate The Coal Quality Engineer - Corporate will assist in all aspects of the Contract Laboratory Services and Coal Quality Control Functions by monitoring, evaluating and auditing specific quality related processes and activities within the department's quality program (e.g., coal sampling, laboratory analyzing, and data evaluation.). This position assists the Company's Mining/Processing Operations with maintaining the highest possible standards of safety, coal quality, productivity and customer service. This position provides coal quality information and technical services to the Company's customers. The Coal Quality Engineer - Corporate will report directly to the Director, Preparation Plants. A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required including college-level math, algebra, statistics, earth science, chemistry and physics. Knowledge of industry wide accepted coal sampling and analysis principles, procedures, methods, standards and practices. Proficiency with the use of spreadsheet, word processing, database and communications programs for accomplishing routine tasks and assignments. Capable of using advanced statistical, mathematical and computer data analysis methods. Possesses effective oral and written communications skills which allow the incumbent to present complex technical information clearly, accurately and articulately.
