WV FREE and WV FREE Action Fund Position Title: Deputy Director Position Status: Exempt Position Reports to: Executive Director General Leadership - 20% - Provide a strong day-to-day presence as internal leader of the organization, managing organizational directors, bridging programmatic operations and goals and supporting an open-door policy among staff. - Lead strategic planning and implementation processes in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. - Research and recommend systems that improve consistency and continuity throughout the organization. - Serve as an external leadership figure, attending meetings, events and coalition activities as needed or when Executive Director is unable. - Provide guidance and leadership over WV FREE's reporting and evaluation processes. - Cultivate WV FREE's values and promote and strengthen our organizational culture. Finance - 20% - Train with ED to learn all financial activities and processes and ensure their implementation. - Work with Executive Assistant, Bookkeeper and ED to develop a financial calendar. - Assist Executive Director on annual budgeting process including financial analysis and projections. - Oversee business policies and accounting practices. - Work with bookkeeper to ensure timely financial reporting is provided and ensure sufficient funds to meet operating needs. - Ensure that all program-related functions are conducted in compliance with regulations of the IRS and other agencies to which WV FREE is accountable. - Support and advise the Executive Director in financial decision making; serve as contact person for budget requests with staff. Operations - 20% - With ED create annual operations plan and budget, maintaining and improving cost-effective operations. - Work with Executive Assistant to review and catalogue legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases and other legal documents, providing a detailed report of all. - Work with EA to review and provide report on the organization's insurance policies. - Work with EA to grow, strengthen and maintain WV FREE's information technology systems and infrastructure. Management & Human Resources - 20%- Work with Executive Assistant and ED to manage all aspects of hiring and termination, including recruitment, orientation, retention and recordkeeping. - Lead organizational development planning and processes, including staff retreats, internal planning days, professional training and development opportunities, etc. - Provide day-to-day supervision and direction to staff. - Lead the organizational performance review process, creating individual development plans for all employees and ensuring timely and regular reviews. - Review and update organizational policies and employee manual. - Create and implement process to streamline staff timekeeping and activity reporting to reduce repetition and time spent on reporting. - Ensure compliance with labor laws and regulations and parity with industry standards. - Ensure maintenance of employee records. - Oversee administration of payroll and benefits. Outreach and Fundraising - 20% - Strategize and participate with Executive Director in strengthening organizational visibility through relationship development, speaking engagements, board memberships and other external opportunities. - Serves as a liaison with policymakers and social justice advocates on women's reproductive health, rights and justice issues. - Manage and support other staff in setting and achieving communications goals, presenting a consistent "voice" for WV FREE and ensuring quality control over all public materials. - Manage and support Development Associate in creating a positive fundraising culture, setting and achieving development goals and participating, as needed, in various fundraising activities including individual donations, special events and institutional funders. - Work with ED and Development Associate to prepare budgets for grant proposals and reports. Other duties as assigned related to WV FREE Action Fund. Qualifications: As a prerequisite, you must believe in the values of WV FREE and be driven by the mission. The candidate should demonstrate a passion for breaking new ground to lead social change. The successful candidate will have at least 4 years experience in a similar position or other position with broad organizational responsibilities including a strong focus on financial management, income development, people management and strategy. Formal accounting training is desired, but not required. Beyond that, we are seeking a candidate that has proven experience in scaling to a multi-site organization and a demonstrated ability to both lead and build the capabilities of a driven, bright, diverse team. Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package included.
